CANOE SPORTS

There is no other sport that can offer such a variety of excitement thrills and spills as canoeing. Whether it's wild white water and waterfalls that take your fancy. Or the beautiful northeast coastline seen from a sea kayak. Or the adventures to be had canoe camping in traditional open canoes.

Here at the Marine Activities Centre we can take you through 1-4 star (personal skill level) in any of these craft. Our fully qualified staff are passionate about their chosen areas of canoeing, therefore you are guaranteed to receive quality coaching and plenty of inspiration.

BCU 1 STAR

Introduction to canoe sports, encouragement award with particular emphasis towards safe practise, regard for equipment and fun.

2 STAR

Improvers award covering the basic flat-water skills required to get you moving in the right direction.

3 STAR

Success at this level means you can consider yourself an intermediate canoeist rather than a beginner. You will probably now be trying out other areas of the sport.

4 STAR

The emphasis is now on moving or exposed open water skills. At the end of a 4 star course you will be a confident and competent group member able to look after yourself whilst being led on a day trip on up to grade 2 water.
